I was extremely excited to hear about the final project and it was super easy for my partner, Ellie, and me to come up with a solid idea. We decided that we are going to cover Vinyl Renaissance, a new vinyl and record store in downtown Columbia. This topic is perfect in so many ways.

There is an aspect of competition that we can cover. There are 2 other record stores in downtown alone, Slackers and Hitt Street Records. It would be interesting to get video of this interaction and how they plan on keeping up with the competition. We could get perspectives from the other store owners and what they think of the new store.

I’m excited to get detail shots of the music and the store as well. It opens Saturday, so it is relevant to local news right now and I like that we can cover something like that. We can interview customers, excited employees, and music lovers around downtown. There is ambient noise of people in the store that we could get and natural sound of music playing in the background.

The topic interests me, because it is with music again. Vinyls, especially, are a commodity that is becoming popular once again. They give you a better sound when listening to music and new record players are always available to purchase online or any antique store. I want to explore why vinyls and records are becoming common again. It’s fun to follow trends, especially when they are trends from the past.
