I honestly have never been more excited to go to school in my entire life. When I made my schedule, I was so ecstatic about what this semester had to offer. Now I’m not just saying this, I just really love going to class. Summer was great, but there’s something so wonderful about sitting and listening to a lecture. People think I am crazy, but I have my reasons. My classes are the best, one of them being Multimedia Journalism.
I took Fundamentals of Photojournalism last semester and it made me realize how much we as journalists need to rely on different types of media. I think adding this class as a requirement was one of the smartest things the journalism school could do. Every day we sit on our computers or phones reading news, watching videos, listening to music, or writing a blog. The Internet is universal and we have come to take advantage of it. My goals for this class are to expand my knowledge on different types of media and hopefully broaden my expertise. I want to be prepared for upper level courses and then the real world. I just think it is very impressive when someone knows how to use a video camera, audio equipment, and a camera to create a complex story worth telling.
I am most excited for renting out the Nikon D7000 and taking pictures. I am a photojournalism major, so that is just right up my ally. I think that this is a class that I will be able to shine in which really excites me. Growing up, I never had an activity that I was particularly good at, so when I work with multimedia I feel like I am actually good at something that matters. I am not an exceptional writer, but what is great about the new journalism is the fact that writing is not all you need in the field. There are so many different components that are just as important as writing. I am excited about this shift to multimedia journalism and am ready to take it full on.
